Fall 2016 New Letter

                                                                                                                                                 November,  2016

 Dear Classmates:

I hope this letter finds you well and looking forward to the upcoming holiday season. Thanksgiving is rapidly approaching and our class reunion committee is well into preparations for our 45th reunion June 7-10, 2016. Mark your calendars now and make your travel plans. It should be a terrific weekend. Our class will be celebrating at some of the newest venues on campus including the Nevins Welcome Center at the newly named Cornell Botanic Gardens, the new Human Ecology Building and Saturday night at Klarman Hall attached to Goldwin Smith.  As part of the activities in the year leading up to reunion, we have partnered with the Classes of 1970-1974 to sponsor events at the US Botanic Garden in June and at the Queens Botanical Garden in September. These programs were a lot of fun and provided the opportunity for mini multiclass reunions. We hope to arrange more local events as well.

The next upcoming events are the Sy Katz Parade in NYC on November 12 following the Cornell Columbia football game and the Classes of the 70’s event at the Local Restaurant before the Cornell Hockey game at Madison Square Garden on Saturday November 26th. Information about these events and how to obtain tickets to the games is available on or class website and on the Cornell web site locations. More information is on the events page of this web site.

The annual Cornell Alumni Leadership Conference (CALC) will be held February 3-4  in Baltimore.  Anyone who would like to volunteer for our class is invited to attend and should get in contact with me. Alumni in the Mid-Atlantic region will be invited to participate in at least one event during this conference.

This has been a year of transition and change as well as celebration for Cornell. Because of the sudden death of President Beth Garret, President Hunter Rawlings was asked to return as Interim president. His loyalty to Cornell is strong and he has been an active proponent of continued educational excellence and the coordination of the many far flung parts of the university both in Ithaca and in New York City.  He is also a good sport once again participating in the Annual Fund Breakfast as the wise man in The Lion King skit performed this weekend at Trustee Council Weekend.  We were told that the 14th President of Cornell University will be named by the end of this year.   President Frank Rhodes turned 90 on Saturday October 26th and his birthday was also celebrated this past weekend with a symposium about his contributions to the fields of geology and Darwinian studies. We hope he can join us for our reunion festivities in June.

I encourage you stay connected to Cornell and to our class through the Alumni News and class column, reunion information and events  on our class website and on the class Facebook page.   If you would like to help with reunion, our web and social media sites, fund raising or other local event planning please contact me.  I encourage you to get involved.  If you have pictures or other class historical information these can be posted on our web sites as well.    Plan on coming to reunion and encourage as many friends as you can to join you.  We hope to make 2017 a record year for reunion attendance and for participation giving.   Remember to renew your class dues and to be as generous as you can to Cornell and to our Class Scholarship Fund and our Award for Academic Innovation in Teaching.

All the best in the coming year.  See you in June  !!!!!!!

Nancy
