Cornell Alumni Admissions Ambassador Network

Chaired by Linda Meyers ‘67, the Coastal CT Cornell Club CAAAN Committee has the responsibility of contacting prospective students in high schools in Middlesex and New London counties in the fall and winter as requested by the Cornell Admissions Office. The meetings provide an opportunity for the applicant to see the face of Cornell and to personalize the college application process but are not considered “interviews”. Committee members also volunteer to attend high school “college days” where students have the opportunity to gather information about colleges of interest to them. More information about CAAAN is available on the Cornell website; http://www.caaan.admissions.cornell.edu/.

We currently have 9 alumni on the committee and each of us averages 4 “conversations” with applicants each admissions year. Most students we see are from schools in New London County but we do cover towns from the Connecticut River to Rhode Island and north to Colchester. We could use alumni volunteers to meet with applicants as part of the admissions procedure and alumni who would be willing to attend college nights at local high schools. For the incoming class of 2020, Cornell has accepted 8 students from our area and 4 will be attending, starting in September of 2016.

If you would like to participate in the Coastal CT CAAAN Committee, please contact Linda at tobrulin@comcast.net.

The Coastal CT Cornell Club is an association of alumni, parents of students, friends and faculty of Cornell University. We welcome all individuals within the geographic region of Middlesex, New Haven and New London counties, as well as all who are interested in promoting Cornell and working together with others who wish to do the same. All alumni and friends are members of the CCCC and are welcome to any and all events.

There are many benefits of becoming active in  a Cornell alumni club.

  • Meet fellow Cornellians in the area
  • Find out who in your town or neighboring towns is a Cornellian
  • Learn about the upcoming events sponsored by the Club
  • Participate in CAAAN to help local high school students learn more about Cornell and to assist Cornell in attracting desirous candidates for Cornell.
  • Become active in a leadership role within the Club
  • Provide scholarship contributions for current students.

All Cornellians registered through the University or who have contacted us and requested information receive notification of club activities.  All are welcome. We try to have a diverse range of activities for all ages. For many of us Cornell was a defining time of our lives. Recapture that feeling and more importantly help us pass it on to the next generation of students starting that journey 'far above Cayuga's waters'. The feeling is timeless, the satisfaction is priceless. Join now by completing the attached membership form and emailing it to Mike Gentry, Gentrme@comcast.net .
