Dear Class Officers,

As 2021 Virtual Reunion Weekend approaches, I am mindful of the dedication, perseverance, and creativity of class officers across generations that keep us coming back to each other, tapping into our Big Red spirit. There are many ways that the impact of your work shows up in the world, from smiles on classmates’ faces to record turnouts at events. The chance to applaud some of that work is a special honor of the CACO Board. In recognition of his incredible leadership, I’m thrilled to announce the recipient of this year’s William “Bill” Vanneman ’31 Outstanding Class Leader Award: Richard Hoffman, Class of 1967.

Richard inspires us with his long-standing service to his class, keeping people connected as the Class Correspondent for nearly 55 years. He also has an impressive record of attending every Reunion since graduation and goes out of his way to connect with as many classmates as possible, especially those attending Reunion for the first time. Read more about Richard and his work here.

The CACO Board offers our heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to Richard! Thank you to all who submitted nominations for this award. We look forward to recognizing Richard during Reunion Weekend’s Saturday night featured event, Spirit of the Hill, and hope that you will join us! The event is open to all and you can register to attend via Reunion registration. If you haven’t already, be sure to check out the Virtual Reunion schedule and register for the exciting digital events and opportunities to gather with Cornellians around the globe.

Quick note for alumni of the classes ending in ’1s and ’6s: you and your classmates will receive an email on Saturday, June 5, with a call to vote on the proposed slate of class officers for your classes for the 2021-2026 term. Please keep an eye out for that and encourage your fellow classmates to participate! If anyone has questions about class officer roles or expectations, there are resources available on the CACO website, in our Class Officer Toolkit. Always feel free to reach out to CACO Board members and your Alumni Affairs and Development staff contacts for information, as well!

Lastly, you should have received an invitation to an event hosted by the President’s Council of Cornell Women (PCCW), called Beyond Pronouns: Understanding Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Gender Expression. This event is designed for alumni volunteers and will share best practices for fostering a more inclusive workplace for members of the diverse LGBTQ+ community. We hope you will attend!

Warm wishes,
