News from the CACO Board

A warm welcome to all of our new class officers as well as a welcome back to all of our returning class officers! As many of our class officers begin their terms just after Reunion Weekend, I’m excited to see what plans they have as volunteer leaders. For those of you who are new to your class councils, CACO’s Class Officer Training committee will be hosting an onboarding session for new officers on Wednesday, September 21 at 7 pm ET. More details will be provided next month, but for now, please save the date!

Speaking of Reunion Weekend, I was thrilled to be back on campus last month along with almost 6,000 alumni, family and friends. In heartwarming news, Reunion 2022 set a record for number of attendees celebrating their 70th Reunion – congratulations to the Class of 1952 and shout-out to the 25 classmates who made it to Reunion. And thanks to the efforts of reunion chairs and class officers, more than $144k was raised in support of student scholarship as a part of registration, bravo! Almost 90% of Reunion participants celebrated on the Hill, including myself, and around 10% tuned in online from around the globe. Thanks so much for joining us.

We on the CACO Board are looking forward to our annual retreat this upcoming weekend. Every summer, we take the opportunity to gather as a board in Ithaca for a longer meeting where we may have different types of discussions than at our regular board meetings, trying to think about the bigger picture or dive deeper into strategizing or brainstorming. It’s also a chance for us to catch up with one another and enjoy Ithaca in the summertime!

Reunion 2022 Memories

Whether or not you were able to attend Reunion in person this year, you can always revisit memories of the weekend’s programming online. One particularly fun memory is Cornelliana Night. You can catch our very own CACO President Erica Healey-Kagan at the 40:47 mark for her remarks as well a special tribute to the latest William “Bill” Vanneman ’31 Outstanding Class Leader Award recipient, Linda Jarschauer Johnson ’60, MS ’63. Congratulations again on this well-deserved honor, Linda!

Class Officer Spotlight: Anna Brecher '21

Anna is a new alumni leader, serving in her role as the Class of 2021 co-president for only a year, but in that time she has inspired classmates, created structure for her board, and taken advantage of leadership and networking opportunities like Cornell Leadership Week. She leads by example and always with a smile, and she cares deeply about keeping her class connected during this year after Cornell and beyond! If you have any ideas or suggestions to share with the Class of ’21, reach out to the officers at cornellclass2021@gmail.com.

Get to Know: Rachel Krug '04
Rachel currently serves as CACO’s VP of Class Officer Training and has been serving her class in various capacities, including co-president, since 2009. The best piece of advice she’s ever received regarding being a class officer is, “Focus on one program or one initiative and make it successful versus running several programs at a time.” Rachel loves that being a class officer has provided an opportunity to learn leadership skills from building a budget to running a team to goal setting for results.
