Welcome to the Cornell Club of Northern New Jersey!

About the Cornell Club of Northern New Jersey

To Our Northern New Jersey Cornell University Community:

It’s a great year to take the reins as President of the Cornell Club of Northern New Jersey, just as Cornell officially welcomes Martha E. Pollack as Cornell’s 14th President. I was fortunate to hear her speak at her first Cornell graduation in May. She did have a tough act to follow with Joe Biden speaking (and eating ice cream) the day before at the Convocation!

My family and I attended graduation weekend for our oldest daughter who is HumEc and my niece who is CALS, both class of 2017. For many of us, graduation was a few years ago (and for some, more than a few). I cannot tell you how impressed and inspired I was at the true pomp & circumstance of this event. Sitting in the crescent at Schoellkopf Field and watching the parade of graduates – doctoral candidates, masters program recipients, and the array and personalities of the undergraduates. There were balloons, banners, blown-up surgical gloves, chefs hats, sunglasses, caps with elaborate decorations, many many many selfies, and even one dog who proudly strolled by. Singing and swaying to the Alma Mater while overlooking Cayuga Lake is a really moving experience. I felt incredibly proud that day - of my daughter and my niece, and of Cornell. I am fortunate to look forward to another graduation for our younger daughter – class of 2020!!

The CCNNJ creates an opportunity for alumni, students and parents to stay connected to this amazing and unique university. As a club, we provide activities to network, learn and experience what Cornell has created with a group of engaged and intelligent alumni. Throughout the year we have a faculty speaker event, book groups, family activities, networking events, and many others. Highlights from last year include: a Hangovers concert, an exclusive screening of the documentary “Agents of Change” produced by two Cornell alumni, a golf outing, networking skills dinner, Zinck’s night, and Cornell Cares Day! Many of which are on tap again for this year!!

For the past four years, the club has been under the leadership of Dorothy Frank ’84, who did a remarkable job at organizing our group. She spearheaded our Sesquicentennial celebration and many other activities including the highly popular Cocktail Clinic (which we will have again this year on September 10th at Serenade in Chatham). Thank you Dorothy!!!!!

As a result of the hard work of our volunteers and the engagement of the alumni in our region, CCNNJ has consistently supported our own Scholarship Fund that provides approximately $9,000 annually in financial assistance to a local Cornell student. Please consider making a donation to help a student in Northern New Jersey!

CCNNJ is not a dues-paying club – so no money to join!! You can attend events or help us organize them by volunteering with us. We especially need representation in Bergen County! Make sure your information is up-to-date in the Alumni Directory. If you have a NetID (assigned by Cornell), click on the Update my Profile button. If you do not know your NetID, click on the link for the alternate form. If you need help, please contact Ron Babuka.

Hope to CU at one of our events this year.
